SAWE – CANADA CHAPTER

TOPICS DISCUSSED
1a) Review of Action Items from previous meeting
- Discussion regarding next years Canadian Chapter SAWE Conference to be held in Toronto on the weekend of either Sept. 22 & 23 or Sept. 29 & 30, 2012. Dates and possible hotel options still to be confirmed. (Action: OPEN Executive)
- Update Blog with SAWE Technical Conference tentative dates. (Action: OPEN Executive)
- Review of SAWE International Actual vs Budgeted figures for the 2nd quarter. (Action: CLOSED Executive)
- Review of a possible standard template for presentations during the SAWE Conferences. A standard template draft was submitted by N. Riou to The Executive and is currently under further review. Look at possible logo and layout reorganization to the draft template. (Action: OPEN G. Shpati)
- Membership Renewal – 44 members have renewed this past year. There was one transfer which leaves a total of 43 current members in the Canadian Chapter. Tax receipts are to be sent out to those members who have paid by check or cash to the Canadian Chapter. (Action: OPEN A. Barth)
- Website to be cross checked with the list of the most current Canadian Chapter SAWE members and updated. (Action: CLOSED Executive)
- Presenters from SAWE Conference to possibly provide electronic copies of presentations. These presentations could possibly be posted on the home page of the SAWE Website in PDF format. (Action: OPEN Presenters from Sept 2011 Conference)
- Update website with CAEP Information. Feedback received from T. Vella and R. Hargrave. It was mentioned to possibly have a follow up discussion on this issue either via a Telecon or a follow up Meeting. (Action: OPEN K. Lacroix with support from T. Vella and R. Hargrave)
1b) Review of Older Action Items from previous meetings
- Update Minutes of Meeting until Feb. & March 2011. (Action: CLOSED S. Norris)
- EXECUTIVE has agreed to write the abstract for 52 old papers. There are currently 10 left to finish. Follow up with Whidy if there are additional items which need to be completed.(Action: OPEN S. Norris)
- “Technical Discussion on the Pros and Cons of Composite Weight Estimation” (Action: OPEN W. Kiskunas to investigate the chance for an open forum via Webex)
2) Other Business
One of the main topics of discussion during the 70th SAWE International Conference which was held in Houston, Texas from May 16th to 19th was that of CAEP. See discussion below:
CAEP – stands for Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection. This committee was created by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). CAEP is working on comprehensive models describing future aircraft fleet composition, operating patterns, and emissions production. Such models depend on the availability of data describing current fleets and operations as well as on the foreseeable technological, operational, and infrastructural improvements.
The SAWE 71st Annual International Conference is to be held May 5-10th, 2012 in Bad Gogging and Manching Bavaria, Germany.
3) Future Technical Decisions
Possible future topics for discussion:
- Buoyancy Analysis (TBD)
- Weight Projection – Parametrics, analytical tools that stress uses for sizing etc. A possible Telecon and open forum could be organized to further the discussion (R. Van Dyk – TBA)
- Existing SAWE publications, which can be accessed by all SAWE members, will be used as a starting point and reference for our discussions
